There are no activity requirements for Etraya. The only requirement is posting a comment sometime during the month noting that you are still interested in continuing playing in the game. There are, however, optional activity rewards, where earned activity points can be redeemed for rewards.
Please note that this is not meant to serve as permission to sit on a character without playing them for extended periods of time. Per the rules, we may check in individually with players if we notice this occurring. We are a relaxed game and understand extenuating circumstances, so we will handle these scenarios on a case-by-case basis.
Submitting Activity
Checking in requires posting a comment during the given month with the subject line "(MONTH, YEAR)". If there are no threads you intend to submit for rewards, you can just say you're checking in.
On the first of each month, there will be an OOC post with the list of characters who were dropped in the prior month and those that will be swept if they don't check in. The check-in grace period lasts until the 5th of the month.
Calculating Activity Points
Activity rewards are earned by playing in game, and characters receive bonuses by participating in missions and other incentivized events like Chirper.
- There are two ways to calculate points for rewards, as below. The calculation method will maximize your reward points, but the summary method doesn't require counting.
- A thread can only be used once, for one method and for one month.
- Both methods can be used in one month if desired. Example provided here.
- Points can only be submitted for the month in which the thread occurred, but if the thread lasts multiple months, it can be submitted for the cumulative total in the final month.
- In all cases, a maximum of twenty-five (25) points can be earned per month.
- Players can edit check in comments to later total reward points so long as a reward has not been requested since. (Edit as many times as you like!) Once a mod notes your point total, you cannot edit to add more points above that.
One (1) point is earned per thread from:
- Five (5) log comments by your character
- Ten (10) network comments by your character
If a thread is a hybrid of network and log interaction, count each set of comments separately to calculate points.
Submit a written summary of your character's actions in Etraya throughout the month, around 100-300 words,
Earn 5 points for each set of three (3) threads of any length submitted, where the threads include tags from your character during the month.
Note that mission-related threads do not count for double using this method.
Additional nuanced rules under the collapse.
- Points are accumulative over a character's time in game, but the points reset if you drop then reapp your character.
- A network thread is anything that utilizes the network function (audio/video/text) while log threads are anything that take place in person, regardless of which community or post the thread takes place in.
- Character inboxes are allowed.
- Test drive threads can be used even if the character does not join the game.
- New characters can submit threads for reward points for the month they app in.
Activity Rewards
If requesting a reward, please use "(MONTH) REWARD REQUEST" and describe what reward you're looking for.
An example is posted here.
Currently available activity rewards are listed here. Please note this is not an exhaustive list; if your character wants something that is not listed, please feel free to post a comment requesting it, and we'll give you an idea of how much that item would cost!

Five (5) Points - A small item from home, such as a personal cell phone or a favorite book.
Ten (10) Points - An item that will assist with the upcoming mission. Characters will not know what the mission is when requesting this, and they will not know what item they will receive until it's given to them.
Fifteen (15) Points - A smaller-sized vehicle, such as a motorcycle.
Fifteen (15) Points - A pet. This could be your best friend Sparky, or Krypto the Superdog. As long as they're not appable, they can be requested.
Twenty (20) Points - A large vehicle, such as a smaller-sized ship, or the batmobile.
Twenty (20) Points - An item they had back home that would provide long-term assistance with missions. A spell book for a warlock is a good example of this.
Thirty (30) Points - A setting addition. This could be a massive pirate ship or a building of the character's choice. While what is added by the companion bots is done automatically upon arrival, this request is something the character themselves request.
Fifty (50) Points - A "get out of death free" pass. This can be purchased for anyone who dies, not just the one who asked for the pass. This will negate the cost of death, but can only be used once every six months. Death passes need to be assigned to someone in advance of their death (although this can be mere moments). Who it is can be changed at any time.
Sixty (60) Points - A free pass out of a mission. This can be used by the character requesting it, or it can be gifted to a friend. These can only be requested once every six months and can be used before or after the mission has been assigned.

Taking a Hiatus
If taking a hiatus is required for a certain month, please use the formatting of "(MONTH, YEAR, HIATUS)". As an example, "AUGUST 2025 HIATUS" would be a suitable subject line. For the months a hiatus is requested, we will waive the requirement to post a check-in comment.
When a hiatus or player absence goes through a mission, you are welcome to handwave your character participating or request a reason for them to be absent.
Hiatuses lasting longer than 3 months can request a solo mission.
These are meant to offer players an easier way to slide back into the game after time away and give reasoning for their character's absence. We may also offer this retrospectively if you have been checking in but not around much.
If you'd like a solo mission, please feel free to list what you would like your character to explore! This can be as descriptive as "doing detective work or "learning more about Etraya". We'll come back with something built to suit them specifically.
An example of a previously given solo mission is available here for review.
New Characters
Once accepted into the game, please post a comment with your name, and then your character's name in a subheader below that. There is an example of what it should look like posted by the mod journal below. This initial comment counts as your AC check-in for the month you apped.
In Character Justification
While the nature of how base activity points are given is not known ICly, characters do know they receive points for participating in missions and for interacting with Etraya's setting.
The exact quantities and how they're calculated are a mystery to them, but they can ask in-character for rewards either by messaging Aurora directly on the network or by asking one of the companion bots, who will pass the request along to her.
It has also been hinted that points can be subtracted...
