Mission Suggestions
Post mission ideas and suggestions in the comments below! Feel free to build off of one another and +1 anything you're interested in seeing. You might see some of these used in future missions.
We will screen any threads for suggestions we do use.
We would also like to invite people to come to us with offers to run missions or events of your own. This can be an IC effort or just one you as the player are volunteering for. Although we can't guarantee we'll take up every offer, we know we have some motivated, capable, and creative players in game!

Saturn Rukh inspired (on goodreads), where the concept is about going to an environment where characters are attempting to solve an illness or infection for a massive species that lives its existence in upper atmosphere, flying. Establishing communication could be part of it, or a means could exist first so they're coming in as a smaller, beneficial parasite species in the flying creature's point of view, to help save one or more members of their 'flight' from dying of this illness. In the novel, it's radiation sickness from a reactor core that goes wrong and is poisoning the Rukh, but really it can be anything characters could still need to track down.

Father as something like the concept from the Animorphs series where either an investigation of a crash to find survivors, or trying to extract survivors from Father, or trying to extract information from Father by engaging with 'him' in some capacity. The underlying concept being a singular being has spread itself across a planet/moon, and is the only living entity on that planet/moon, and he thinks you should integrate with him. Along with anyone he's 'caught.'

I think there's a lot that could be taken from the Animorphs setting and either used whole sale or adopted for other plots/missions:
The idea of people being infested/taken over and the people around them having to figure out a.) that they have been taken over and b.) what to do about it. Obviously, I'm thinking Yeerks, but the general idea holds up and would be something that people could explore with their CR.
The Ellimist and Crayak as other 'gods' treating galaxies and such as their playground, complete with their own artificial lifeforms as representatives.
Fuckery with the Time Cube: Either going back in time in Etraya to past missions/events or something like we see in the books with different people's thoughts/intentions used to create a weird, not right patchwork of different worlds (perhaps people noticing some similarity to Etraya?)
Fixing a Saario Rip: Look, I'mma be real, I just think it would be cool if we went to dinosaur times. But general idea of fixing a rip in space time and them being somewhere prehistoric (or at like...the end of the universe) and having to figure out a way to fix it.
Let's visit the 90s! Yes, this is its own bullet point.
Stopping (or helping with) the genocide of the Hork Bajir. On one hand, genociding an intelligent species bad. On the other hand, giving militaristic parasites a bunch of very scary host bodies they'll use to take over other planets also bad.

Planet Psychic Everything Survival of the Fittest - I'm not sure if anyone on the mod team is familiar with CJ Cherryh, but her "Rider at the Gate"/"Cloud's Rider" duology deals with the concept of a world where all creatures are psychic to various degrees, and use this to disguise themselves to survive or to lure in meals. The best way to survive is bond with a psychic creature of your own, and work as the communication system of transporting ideas and goods between given settlements. For the sake of RP, also lets the psychic oriented characters come in swinging and also being in the extremely weird situation of being the most normal thing on planet when literally everything out there wants to eat or flee from you. I wouldn't say people should bond with psychic pseudo-horses, but there might be something smaller and less invasive that could work (if animal bonding was wanted), or you have a temporary psychic "gift" only it's across the board of psi-abilities, meaning instead of telepathy you might have telekinesis, and groups needing to get out and find an Objective or just survive getting between settlements would need to work together, with the telepath NPCs who have a multitude of powers being the unique unicorns getting to prance themselves around before a telepathically hidden pit-trap-horror tries to take a foot off. For the prancing. Very rude.

Playing around with a mission in Etraya where characters can opt into some form of Daemon a la Phillip Pullman's his dark materials series, only less restrictive and... stuff. It could be a matter of a portal/hole being torn into Etraya proper and a group of explorer NPCs come over, and determining which of them is responsible for creating the portal/tear in reality before that person does it again. The leaking over of the reality on the other side could lead to players opting into characters manifesting a daemon of their own, and increasing their likelihood of being targeted by the killer who kicked off this whole reality intrusion in the first place. ???

Oh here's another if anyone's read the Paladin books by T. Kingfisher, but a mission about trying to solve a slew of odd murders set in a different location (maybe a space station! or Australia! or the Midwest! I hear Ohio Is Great --) and the PCs are charged with tracking down the killer(s) and taking them out of commission before the locals realize what's going on. So trying to be somewhat stealthy, having possibly really gross or less gross ways of NPC victims being targeted, and the ultimate killers are in fact weird little clockwork heads (or hearts! or livers! who knows!) that reproduce themselves by making more of themselves in kilns and implanting themselves in Bodies. As one does. It's fine. (It isn't fine.) But it's the whole dealing with a created species that's propagation of itself is inherently deadly to any other species it comes across without it being Xenomorphs for once! (I love xenomorphs, yet look I have yet to recommend them!)

Absurd Mecha Piloting Plotline where it is absurd, involves mechas (you can pilot, maintain, work strategy, staff the on station stores, etc), like you're part of a moon station helping to defend a planet from Something. Maybe no one knows what the Something is. Maybe they do. Keep the Something from destroying the planet... or maybe learn what the Something really wants, and instead ally with the Something against Something Even Scarier. Clearly this is a great plan.

We're in Victorian England as one massive household or integrated into many households in a universe with hidden Vampires of London, and also Kirk feels annoyed because why are we dealing with Vampires wtf? Can end up enthralled for the duration of mission if you catch the wrong attention, and the goal is to determine which of the three main vampiric houses is responsible for draining Some Important Political Figure visiting the country whose death is currently causing major political upheaval/turmoil. Help stop a war by getting info into the right hands! Help make sure a human-vampire war happens by getting the wrong information into the wrong hands! This gets to be silly with Victorian England romance-novel tropes where ??? we're not remotely historically accurate, think Bridgerton IG? And can involve at least one Ball for information gathering where members of all three vampiric houses will be present.

This would likely be part of a bigger mission, but a 'walk a mile in their shoes' prompt! Character A gets to experience character B's thoughts, emotions, possibly memories? Maybe they get to live through B's best or worst day ever as if they were B themselves, instead of the kind of memshare where it's like watching a movie. Or they're stuck with some kind of empathy connection that causes B's emotions to override their own. It could also be a two way connection, so the other character's emotions keep getting tangled up in their own and vice versa.

Underwater mission! Everyone is either turned into a mer-creature or has access to other means of surviving underwater.

Ambergris!
-Early 20th century tech level but fuckin' weird land/history (so there are pre-WWI vehicles/weapons/some wire phones for rich people)
-Annual Freshwater Squid festival is basically The Purge; people party and do crime/killings in the strees for a night
-Giant squid in the river that laces thru the city; they are sassy and will squirt water at ppl for funsies. Some locals are convinced they can transform into them but reports are ?? ??
-Vibrant art and writing scene full of drama and parties and scandal and vying publishing houses
-An underground civ of mushroom people (Gray Caps) who come out at night to kill/dismember the unsuspecting and alone; they tend to carve out eyes and leave them out to be found. fun!
-Underground mushroom ruins/architecture that is also full of nightmare fuel machines full of slugs dreaming realities unknown
-Mushroom spores can cause bodyhorror changes (wanna turn into a fungus?? GOOD NEWS---)
-Nightmare fuel machine could be tickling other world's realities hence the cause to fish it out and unfuck it; mission could be to take expeditions down into the Greycap ruins to find the machine and stop it from sayyyyy belching out shit akin to the poison gas that fucked us up in October -- very malleable shit to intertwine with overarching plot
-For less dire happenings, people can interact with the local arts/publishing scene, get jobs with the dueling publishing houses, getting forced to be tourguides for places they NEVER fucking been before and gotta make shit up on the fly; maybe there's some mcguffin Echo needs (to learn abt the nightmare fuel machine's machinations??) they can scavenge topside?
The set dressing is just tasty and weird and a Fuckshit Machine that can be played with for whatever needs the overarching plot ✨

It'd be interesting to go to a world/zone where the pieces for saving that world were already in place, but that we would be the additional asset to secure it and actively see the stabilization happen -- that'd provide some convincing evidence to the harder skeptics that their purpose here is actually useful, even if it's not to their own world(s).
Like lmfao i'm imagining that bit in Lilo & Stitch where she's like "dear God i need a friend send me your nicest angel" and then it hard cuts to Stitch cackling maniacally...
But like yeah imagining we respond to a call to the supposed heavens that isn't related to Echo's efforts at all but can be taken advantage of would be interesting to me just as a setup B]
Precisely WHAT about us collectively that could be the clincher is what I'm still chinscratching on; maybe we got some imperviousness to whatever is blighting said world on account of being outsiders or sth? Isekai stink. Or idk only strangers from distant realms/heavens can pilot the combining mecha to defeat our enemies etc etc...
